We depart from Reykjavík and enter the rough mountain
tracks of Hellisheiði to explore the fascinating
thermal activity of the ancient Hengill volcano. After
a short walk in between the boiling hot springs and

We head for the south coast away from the lights of
the city and from here we start our hunt for the
Auroras Borealis with the aim of exploring one of the
region’s lava caves, famous for its beautiful ice
and lava formations. We put on our helmets and lights
to explore the cave’s “crystal palace” of ice.
